Your chance to secure a £10,000 short film commission!

Short films are a fantastic way for filmmakers to present their talents, ideas, skills and abilities to the film and TV industry , a must for your showreel and a great cinematic experience for audiences.

Shorted is Northern Film & Media’s new short film scheme, aimed at film makers (both experienced and newcomers) who have a great short film idea.

Entry to the scheme and the fund is via the Shorted Pitch Challenge. The winners of the Shorted Pitch Challenge will each receive up to £10,000 to professionally produce their short film this summer. Additionally the winner/s will benefit from high level script development and producer mentorship, guidance from international distributors Soda Pictures, and the opportunity to work with Failbetter Games to create an online element to their story.

The Challenge

On Sunday 3 April, up to 20 shortlisted teams and their professional actors (supplied by us) will have 6 hours to make a tantalising taster of their short film idea. That same evening the taster films will be screened to an industry panel of judges (and audience made up of fellow filmmakers) in a series of 6 minute pitches. The 6 minute pitch is a chance to screen their taster film shot that day, give a verbal pitch and present a poster as part of their campaign. Gulp!

Selected teams will clock in at base camp that morning, and meet up with the professional actors who will play the central roles in their ‘taster’. How you go about making your taster is up to you. You could shoot a pivotal scene or moment, a character study, trailer or the whole darn thing – but in your film you need to be able to get across to the panel your ultimate vision; a strong sense of story, style, inventiveness, ambition and creativity.
