Tips for Flip

Thinking about shooting a flip clip?

Here are some basic tips for getting that perfect shot

  • Mid shots are good - mid shot is from someone's middle up to just past the top of their head (think of the news reporters who are reporting from the streets). But you can use close ups (from shoulders up with some space above their heads).

  • Point the camera at the person Jand make sure you get some space at the top of their head (don't get too close)

  • Sometimes its good to see where someone is because the background can tell you a bit about them (are they outside? In a living room?) Think about what you see around someone and make sure its not too distracting.

  • Try not to move the camera too much - keep it simple.

  • Its best that the interviewee speaks clearly (they may need to slow down)

  • Think about background noise - don't film near a motorway!

  • Keep it short and sweet - 1-2 minutes per person is enough

Questions

Before asking the FlipSide questions you may want to start by asking the subject to tell you key information. You will have to ask "open" questions which are questions that will allow the interviewee to talk a lot (a closed question is a question that gets yes or no answers - avoid these)

Eg.

  • "tell us your Name, age, and something important about yourself"
  • "What are you feeling today? And why?

Good Luck!
